Malvern, Pa. Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. said its surface-mount Power Metal Strip resistor is the industry's first 1-watt current sensing resistor in a 1206 package size.
The smaller size allows it to replace larger current sensing resistors to save board space in consumer electronics applications.
The WSLP1206 is intended for current sensing and pulse applications in DC/DC converters for computers, VRMs for laptops, Li-ion battery safety and management, and electronic automotive systems including engine controls, multimedia electronics, climate controls, and anti-lock brakes.
Manufactured using proprietary techniques that result in extremely high-power and low-resistance values, the WSLP1206 features all-welded construction with a solid metal nickel-chrome or manganese-copper alloy resistive element. The current sense resistor features a low resistance value range of 2 to 50 milliohms, low inductance values from 0.5 to 5 nanohenries and high-temperature performance up to 170°C. Other characteristics include an excellent frequency response to 50 MHz, and low thermal EMF of less than 3 uV/°C.
Pricing for U.S. delivery starts at $0.25 per piece in quantities of 100,000. Samples and production quantities of the resistor are available now, with a lead time of four to six weeks for larger orders.
